Book Summary:

Leila Marx is trying to put her life back together after her fiance is murdered. Her book illustrating career has limited her social contact and nightmares have trapped her in the past. When a police acquaintance enlists her help with a difficult case, Leila is surprisingly thankful to have a purpose. Not only will this help to keep her mind focused, but she will be able to use her talents as a touch clairvoyant that are frequently dismissed by skeptics. Leila and Detective Garrick Pearson delve into the mystery behind a series of missing teenage girls and mummified corpses while fighting their own growing attraction to each other.

Conner Hoffman is an intriguing lawyer and striking half-demon who enters Leila’s life unexpectedly. Although her visions are terrifying, she is fascinated by his charm and his legacy. When it becomes evident that the murders are linked to a paranormal event, Conner introduces Leila to a world unbeknownst to ordinary society. She suddenly finds herself immersed in supernatural politics, sorcery, and danger as she becomes the killer’s next target. Staying alive will mean relying on friends, accepting the unbelievable, and trusting in her heart again.

The Story….

Leila Marx is a social oddout. Not by choice but due to circumstances. After losing her fiancé in a senseless shootout, she had lost all her reasons to be sociable again. Moreover she was gifted. A gift that had been passed on to her by her family. The death of her fiancé had been more painful since she had expected to foresee his death and it had hurt her that with all her talent she could not do so.She is a touch psychic.

A year later, while she is still mourning, she is sought out by the police department to solve some of the crimes. Though it does not pay [for that she works as a book illustrator] but it helps her to sharpen her skill. It is here that she meets Detective Garrick Pearson. Initially they treat each other only professionally but in the course of time they do feel attracted towards each other.

But on the other hand, her best friend, introduces her to Conner. A relatively harmless guy with curly hair. But is he all that he seems to be? Conner introduces her to a world of magic which she had thought only existed in stories and myths.

While she fights along with Garrick to search for mysteriously missing girls, she joins with Conner to find the hidden truth behind those missing girls. Would the two men be able  keep her safe or will the forbidden knowledge of the mysterious world consume her?

What I liked…..

The story line was very gripping. I had to finish this book. Though I am not a paranormal reader as a norm but I wanted to reach the end. The paranormal world along with the crime scene had a gripping effect while the romance developing amongst the characters was cute.[ though baffling at times].

After Conner introduces Leila to the supernatural beings, her bafflement, her terror and her growth as a psychic is very well etched. I loved the way words were used to describe the fight between Leila and The Evil One [Opps!!!  I almost gave the name up]. It was picturesque and grotesque but kept you glued to the book till the very end.

What I didn’t like…

Hmmmm… let me think…..

Why did one of the guys have to go and why did it have to be that One ….. ? [ Oh God! I am dying to let it all out!!!]

I have one unanswered question? Was there a supernatural phenomena behind the fiancé dying? I got the impression that it could have been but I waited till the end and nothing came up. Maybe in the next part?

Ratings....

Reasoning:

As I have already pointed out I had a loose end which needed an answer – the fiance’s death. I just hate not knowing. Sorry that is the busybody living inside me – a very stubborn busybody!!!

The Books in this series.......

My Review....

I am sorry to say that I have not read the previous books so getting into this book took me a bit of time. The beginning was a bit bumpy but once I got hold of the characters and the plot I found the story quite interesting. Dannika Dark has created a world of her own. Each page acts like a breather to this story.

Imaginative, quirky and a bit of a roller coaster ride, this tell the journey of Silver as she is blackmailed into cheating and breaking Logans heart by Tarek. Silver is caught in a multitude of emotions saving her loved ones, her hatred for Tarek and her passion for Logan.

The passion between Logan and Silver is palpable and I hated Tarek with equal passion. But as I said before since I had not read the books previously in this series I found keeping track of all the characters a bit confusing. There were many parts in this book which I skipped for the simple reason I had related to Silver and did not want to leave the path she was following. But for those who have followed this series, they will find each character strongly portrayed with some power packed scenes.

Rating.....

Reasoning....

The story is action packed and fast paced. Dannika Dark has done a superb job playing with the words. But having not read the previous books I found some of the characters a bit confusing. Sometimes I found it frustrating when I had to divert from Silver, Logan and Justus.

About the Author....

Down in Texas, there's a woman who drinks copious amounts of vitamin water placed precariously close to her laptop. Yeah, I know. I've got a drinking problem. Hi, I'm Danni.

When I'm not writing (which is all the time), I'm listening to obscure music, watching movies, reading, discovering new ways to humiliate myself bowling, and burning up my laptop battery on the internet. I live with a cat who thinks she is a dog, or a goat (she eats plastic, so I'm not sure which).

Some people count sheep when they have insomnia. Since I was little, I used to make up stories in my head in a futile attempt to bore myself to sleep. The problem was, I'd get so wrapped up in my "head stories" that I would continue them through the following nights, changing it up each time to make it more exciting. Eventually, I started writing my ideas down more and more, creating short stories which evolved into poetry.

Lots and lots of poetry. It's almost embarrassing that I have an entire box loaded with spiral notebooks filled with furious, heartfelt, and blushing words. Apparently, I had a lot to say.

Another one of my hobbies is digital art. I designed all my book covers.

I am finally doing what I have always wanted to: giving my characters a pulse through publishing. I write adult urban fantasy romance, but I don't like labels. I let the story tell itself, and color outside the lines. I am not a YA author, but I think it’s pretty great that there are so many books available to teens in Urban Fantasy and Paranormal. These are the future readers!

The work that goes behind self publishing is hard work, I won't lie. On top of my regular day job: I write, edit, format, create cover art, and market.

But it's what I love to do, and someday, I'm going to be doing this full time.
